How To Start Over Again

Making mistakes is natural.  I’m a believer that it is the most inexpensive and effective school, the school of hard knocks.  Its effects might appear devastating, but eventually you will realize its worth.  We all learn from our mistakes, and learning is one of the most powerful tools to prepare us on our journey to a successful life.

People approach failure differently.  There are those who turn their back and live life with regret, while some put the blame on other people and their situation.  Most people learn from the event and move forward.

But moving forward is not easy, especially if you’ve been through a lot of pain.  Below are steps to start over and empower yourself for a better tomorrow.

1.       Acknowledge the situation.  Be honest and admit that the situation you are in is a product of your past judgement.  Instead of blaming others for your misfortune, think of ways to better your experience.  Ask yourself what went wrong and what you could have done differently to avoid it.  No one else is responsible for yourself and your experiences so focus on how to better your life.

2.      If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.  After analyzing your current state, write down your goals.  Ask yourself what you want to achieve after the great fall.  Dwelling on the past will not change your situation.  Focus on what you want to achieve, instead of your misgivings.  In planning, think of the outcome first before breaking it into smaller action plans.  This way, you’ll be inspired to achieve your aspirations.

3.      Surround yourself with positive and encouraging people.  You need people to support and motivate you.  People who will empower and inspire you to start over.  The people around you mirror the kind of experience and life that you’ll have.  If your objective for moving on is to make up for lost time and opportunity, surround yourself with people who can make it happen.

4.      Just do it.  One of the most challenging parts of starting over is taking the initial step.  If you are determined to change your current state, no matter how difficult the step is, you will do it.  The succeeding steps are easier and manageable.  If you  find you can’t begin, maybe your situation isn’t dire enough to cause you to make a change.

5.      Revisit your goals and continuously motivate yourself.  It’s easy to get off track and forget the past, even if it caused you so much trouble.  It’s true that moving on entails you to let go of your past.  Letting go in this context means that you let go of your negative feelings, and not your valuable learning.  Constantly remind yourself of the agenda for  taking actions.  Remember that with the decisions you make, the lives of people around you can change, too.

6.      As you progress in your action plan, review the previous actions you took and analyze the outcome.  Every result should be in accordance to your goal.  Always better the result by improving your approach in achieving your goals.  Remember that you are responsible for your life and everything that happens to it.

Determination and a clear vision of the future play a big role in starting over.  Making big mistakes in the past is not an isolated case.  More and more people who failed in the past are now successful. Everytime you fail, feel good about it because you are step closer to SUCCESS.
